President of Tanzania, Jakaya Kikwete, announced on January 2011 that the budgetary estimates for the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare will be increased to 15 per cent of the country's budget in the coming three years. Currently, the government allocates 12 per cent of the national budget to the health sector, while donors contribute the remaining 5.9 per cent. According to the President, "the government is fully aware that education and training are key factors that are important to the improvement of our health sector. For that reason, the government will continue to invest heavily in medical training."
