With the full support of the Government of Tanzania, the vision of the Touch Foundation broadened to address nationwide issues relating to the quality of health care, quantity of health care workers, and overall health of the population.

Joan and Sandy Weill, two of the Touch Foundation’s longest standing supporters, facilitated this “twinning” program between the northern and southern universities. In honor of the Weill couple, the hospital and medical university in Tanzania were officially named “Weill Bugando.”

It focuses on the training of highly-skilled human resources for health (HRH) as the primary lever for addressing the global health care crisis and provides a strategy for the Touch Foundation to pursue to address it.
