Fall 2009 Newsletter

Events on both sides of the Atlantic this fall highlighted our close partnerships with the Tanzanian and US governments as well as with private sector partners committed to Tanzania.  The newsletter also features the promotion of Lee Wells, formerly Director of External Affairs, to Executive Director, and covers the visit by two US Congresswomen from California to Weill Bugando's medical school and teaching hospital.

Spring 2009 Newsletter

We are proud to announce the first graduation of doctors from Weill Bugando. What began as a small program with only ten medical students has now grown to 277 students in the MD program alone and to nearly 800 students across all disciplines. These new health workers are now treating patients across Tanzania.

May 2007 Newsletter

Medical residents from Weill Cornell Medical College in New York share experiences from their two-month rotations at their “twin” university in Tanzania. Joan and Sandy Weill, two of the Touch Foundation’s longest standing supporters, facilitated this “twinning” program between the northern and southern universities. In honor of the Weill couple, the hospital and medical university in Tanzania were officially named “Weill Bugando.”

Fall 2006 Newsletter

This newsletter highlights the new accommodation, recently completed, to house approximately 320 students at Weill Bugando. The newsletter also introduces Professor Cassian Magori, a vital asset to the medical university and a vibrant personality. His experiences reveal some of the significant challenges posed to medical professionals in Tanzania.
