During our visits to Bugando this year, we have been able to check in with the doctors and speak with them about their experiences working in Mwanza. With candid accounts of the successes and challenges that have characterized their time teaching, working with, and learning from the Tanzanian doctors, they have shared their conviction of the great value both institutions can draw from this program. We have been excited to see all of the visiting Weill Cornell doctors and faculty showing great passion and commitment to the work they are doing in Mwanza.
In response to the success of the pilot project in its first few months of operation, the Touch board voted on March 13 to continue support for this program through to August 2008. In addition, Touch will also join Weill Cornell in funding two new Weill Cornell instructors, Dr. Rob Peck and Dr. Beatrice Im, to live, work and teach at Bugando University College of Health Sciences for up to three years.
