U.S. Senators Richard Durbin and Sherrod Brown visited Tanzania in February 2010 to learn about the healthcare worker crisis. The World Health Organization estimates a global shortage of 4.3 million health workers, including about 1.5 million in sub-Saharan Africa.

We are proud to announce the graduation of Weill Bugando's inaugural class of nine medical students on November 22, 2008. The Touch Foundation and Weill Bugando were honored to hear from Tanzanian President Jakaya M. Kikwete at the ceremony.

On October 2, some six hundred guests attended the Touch Foundation's mchezo! benefit at Rose Theater, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center.

The Touch Foundation held its annual gala, the Asante Supper, at the Waldorf Astoria on May 21, 2008. Almost three hundred guests, including many of the Touch Foundation's long-standing supporters, came out for the Asante Supper, which is Swahili for "thank you."

Working with a team of consultants from McKinsey & Company's health systems practice, Weill Bugando leadership and Tanzanian health ministry officials, the Touch Foundation completed the diagnostic phase of the Lake Zone Initiative in the spring of 2008.
