Citigroup, Inc. and Citigroup Foundation

Citigroup, Inc. and Citigroup Foundation have both made significant contributions to BUCHS, through a $1.5 million gift from Citigroup Foundation and a $5 million donation from Citigroup, Inc., in honor of retiring chairman Sandy Weill. Chip Raymond, former President of Citigroup Foundation and current Managing Director of the Strategic Wealth Advisory for Citigroup’s Global Wealth Management Group, sits on Touch’s Board of Directors.
McKinsey & Company

McKinsey & Company has been a critical partner since before our inception. The international management strategy consulting firm helped design our organization and research the complexities of forming a nonprofit with operations abroad. The firm provides us with office accommodation and access to over one hundred and fifty valuable McKinsey volunteers. Lowell Bryan, a director (senior partner) at McKinsey, serves as Touch president and Board member, and Vikram Malhotra, McKinsey director and leader of McKinsey’s Northeast Complex, also sits on our Board of Directors.

In November 2005, McKinsey commenced a pro bono study to help refine our strategy for addressing the global shortage of healthcare workers in Tanzania. Their findings were presented at our second annual Symposium on Human Resources for Health on June 5, 2006, and can be downloaded from our website here. (Visit the Publications section for additional media.)
Stroock & Stroock & Lavan, LLP

In addition to being a regular donor to the Touch Foundation, Stroock & Stroock & Lavan handles all of our legal needs pro bono. The firm provided essential support during the formative stages of our development, helping us navigate the legal complexities of establishing a not-for-profit foundation with operations abroad. Kevin Curnin, Special Counsel and Director of the firm’s Public Service Project, sits on Touch’s Board of Directors. David Lowden, Special Counsel, volunteers as Secretary for Touch Board meetings.
Weill-Cornell Medical College

Weill-Cornell Medical College provided strategic direction during the creation of Touch’s inaugural project, the Bugango University College of Health Sciences (formerly BUCHS), as well as library books, computers, and its basic curriculum on CD-ROM. On May 3, 2006, the two institutions signed an official affiliation agreement, along with associate hospitals New York Presbyterian and the Bugando Medical Center, formalizing their relationship. Weill-Cornell is currently exploring fellowship opportunities at Weill Bugando.
Joan and Sanford I. Weill

Joan and Sandy Weill are true friends to Touch and our inaugural project, the Bugando University College of Health Sciences (BUCHS). In February of 2004, the couple made their first visit to Mwanza, Tanzania, along with friend Father Dr. Peter Le Jacq, to observe the school’s progress. Since then, they have been committed partners to BUCHS and have made significant financial contributions through our organization. At his retirement ceremony on April 18, 2006, Mr. Weill named the Touch Foundation as the recipient of a $5 million donation given in his name by Citigroup, Inc., the global financial services company that Mr. Weill helped build. Most recently, in February 2007, the Weills returned to Mwanza for a celebration presided over by the Tanzania’s health minister, Professor David Mwakyusa, at which the Bugando medical complex was officially renamed “Weill Bugando” in honor of their commitment. We are very grateful to the Weills for their support.
