We are a nonprofit, secular public charity dedicated to addressing the global healthcare crisis by working with developing countries to train doctors, nurses, and other human resources for health (HRH) who are committed to serving their local communities. We are currently focusing our efforts in Tanzania, a stable, democratic nation experiencing one of the worst healthcare crises in the world.

Where our work counts

The scarcity of healthcare workers in the developing world, and in sub-Saharan Africa in particular, has created a burden of disease that is unprecedented in human history. Tens of millions of lives are lost each year, due in large part to the grave shortage of health professionals available to educate about disease prevention and provide proper diagnosis and treatment.

The World Health Organization (WHO) identified the extreme shortage of healthcare workers as a principle bottleneck to providing healthcare treatment in sub-Saharan Africa. This is particularly true in Tanzania, where there is but one doctor for every 25,000 people (as compared with one for every 400 in the United States). Each new HRH we train will save approximately 150 unique lives over the course of his or her career, according to WHO estimates. We believe our response to the global healthcare crisis will have profound implications for the people of Tanzania and, eventually, other developing countries.
